Our Commitment

Accessibility

This site is built for everyone — regardless of ability, device, or how you choose to navigate the web.

Our Commitment

Orville R. Wright, III is committed to ensuring that orwright.com is accessible to all visitors, including those who use assistive technologies such as screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, or other adaptive tools. Accessibility is not an afterthought here — it was built into this site from the ground up.

This site targets conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA — the internationally recognized standard for web accessibility.

What We Have Done

The following measures have been implemented across this site:

  • Descriptive alt text on all images, conveying meaningful context to screen reader users.
  • Semantic HTML landmarks — <nav>, <main>, <footer>, <article>, <section> — so screen reader users can navigate by page regions.
  • A skip navigation link at the top of every page, allowing keyboard users to bypass the navigation menu and jump directly to content.
  • All interactive elements — links, buttons, and form fields — are fully reachable and operable via keyboard alone.
  • ARIA labels on all icon-only buttons, navigation toggles, decorative images, and external links that open in a new tab.
  • Form inputs are programmatically linked to their labels via id and htmlFor attributes.
  • Color contrast across all text meets or exceeds the WCAG 2.1 AA minimum ratio of 4.5:1 for normal text.
  • Decorative SVG icons are hidden from assistive technologies using aria-hidden="true".
  • The mobile navigation menu communicates its open and closed state via aria-expanded.
  • The active page in the navigation is indicated to screen readers via aria-current="page".
  • Structured data (JSON-LD) is included for search engine accessibility and discoverability.
  • The site is fully responsive and tested across mobile, tablet, and desktop viewports.

Known Limitations

While we strive for full WCAG 2.1 AA conformance, some third-party content may fall outside our direct control:

  • Articles linked from the Commentary page are hosted on Substack and subject to their own accessibility standards.
  • The Amazon product page for The Secret Oracle is governed by Amazon's accessibility practices.
  • The Amazon product page for Yearning For Acceptance is governed by Amazon's accessibility practices.
  • Google reCAPTCHA, used to protect the contact form from spam, is a third-party service. If you experience difficulty with it, please reach out directly via the contact methods below.

How We Tested

This site has been evaluated using the following tools and methods:

  • Keyboard-only navigation across all pages and interactive elements.
  • NVDA screen reader on Windows, verifying announced labels, roles, and states.
  • axe DevTools browser extension for automated WCAG compliance scanning.
  • Chrome DevTools Accessibility Tree for inspecting ARIA roles and properties.
  • Google Lighthouse accessibility audits.
  • Facebook Open Graph Debugger for social sharing metadata verification.
